To make the canal a real driver of our economy, we have to go beyond marketing and improve the waterway itself.

If elected Mayor, my approach to tourism would begin with a clear sense of who we are. Smiths Falls does not need to market itself as a polished or artificial destination. The people most likely to love this town are the people who appreciate it for what it truly is..

Authentic Smiths Falls

Rugged Authenticity

A genuine, down-to-earth character that does not need to be polished or made artificial to be loved.

Railway Roots

A hard-working railway town shaped by the workers and families who built and ran Canada’s railways.

Canal Heritage & Waterfront

A historic Rideau Canal town with a waterfront that is one of the defining features of who we are.

Attractions That Feel Like Smiths Falls

That means investing in events, attractions, and improvements that fit our community, draw visitors downtown, and still feel authentic to Smiths Falls.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Bike Night

Brings people downtown, supports local businesses, and gives visitors a reason to experience Smiths Falls in a way that feels real.

Heritage

Our Museums

Our museums should be treated as anchors in a larger tourism story, helping visitors understand the railway, canal, industrial, and working-class history that shaped this town.

Our People

People’s History

The story of Smiths Falls is not just buildings and landmarks. It is the story of workers, families, volunteers, veterans, entrepreneurs, and the people who kept this town moving.

The Rideau Canal Opportunity

I believe our greatest untapped tourism opportunity is the Rideau Canal itself. If we want the canal to truly become a driver of tourism, investment, recreation, and local pride, we need to go beyond branding and marketing. We need to improve the waterway itself.

By responsibly reintroducing and supporting native game fish populations, Smiths Falls can turn its waterway into a healthier ecosystem, a stronger tourism asset, and a practical source of local food security.

The canal is one of the defining features of our town, but too much of the waterway has been neglected. In some areas, shorelines are contaminated, the waterfront is blighted, and fish populations are only a fraction of what they once were.
