Housing, Food & Affordability
The Affordability Challenge
Local government cannot fix every part of the affordability crisis, but it can take practical action where it has real authority.
Affordability is one of the biggest issues facing Smiths Falls. Families, seniors, workers, young people, and small businesses are all feeling the pressure of rising housing costs, rising food costs, and a basic cost of living that has become harder and harder to manage.
Local government cannot fix every part of the affordability crisis on its own. Many of the biggest pressures are tied to provincial, federal, and global forces. But that does not mean the Town of Smiths Falls is powerless.
A strong municipal government can take practical steps to increase housing supply, reduce barriers to new construction, support local food production, and make Smiths Falls a more affordable place to live.
If elected Mayor, I will focus on the areas where local government can make a real difference: getting more housing built faster and making affordable food a serious municipal priority.
Affordability is not a slogan, but a practical responsibility.
We need to build more homes, grow more food, restore our waterway, support local partnerships, and make this town easier for ordinary people to live in.
